About the Course

As humanity accelerates its exploration and utilization of outer space, the legal and regulatory frameworks governing these activities face unprecedented challenges. The intersection of international obligations, national interests, commercial innovation, and emerging technologies necessitates a nuanced understanding of space law that is both globally grounded and nationally responsive.

This three-day certificate course on Advanced Space Law is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of current and emerging legal issues in outer space activities. It brings together experts, practitioners, policymakers, and scholars to engage with the evolving legal landscape and critically examine how international space law is being interpreted, applied, and, at times, challenged by national policies and commercial practices.

Course Objectives

  • To examine the regulatory frameworks governing space safety, environmental sustainability, and liability.

Eligibility

Candidates who are pursuing graduation or had graduated are eligible to register.

Admission Procedure

  • Submission of Online Application Form along with the required documents and the fee.
  • Direct admission subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria.

Interested candidates may register for more than one course only when the dates of the sessions are not clashing.

Conduct of the Course

Live sessions will be conducted online by the academicians, professionals, and industry experts during weekends. A soft copy of the reference materials will be provided to the candidates.

If the enrollments are more than 100, then the University may conduct the classes in different batches on different dates.

Mode of Assessment

Online Examination will be conducted only once at the end of the course. The assessment may include MCQ, short answer questions, case studies, problem-based questions, etc.

Award of Certificate (only soft copy through email)

  • Course Completion Certificate: Candidates securing 50% or more in the Assessment Test will be awarded the ‘Course Completion Certificate’.
  • Certificate of Participation: All other enrolled candidates will be awarded the ‘Certificate of Participation’.

Please note that certificates will be issued in soft copy format only and will be sent via email. Printed (hard) copies will not be provided.

Dr. Rosmy Joan

Course Coordinator

Dr. Rosmy Joan specializes in International Economic Law and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for International Trade and Business Law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.

She coordinates Certificate and Diploma programmes in Air Traffic Management and Air Laws for trainee officers of the Air Traffic Control Officer’s Training Establishment, Hyderabad, as well as MA programmes in Aviation Law and Space & Telecommunication Laws. Dr. Joan holds a B.A. LL.B (Hons.) degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, LL.M (Gold Medal) from O.P. Jindal Global University, and a Ph.D. in International Investment Law and Policy from NLU Jodhpur.

Dr. Joan has received multiple awards including the Nani A. Palkhivala Gold Medal, The City of the Hague Scholarship, Distinguished Alumni Award from O.P. Jindal Global University, and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship for Academicians. She has extensive teaching experience at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.

Prof. Kai-Uwe Schrogl

Prof. Kai-Uwe Schrogl is the President of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) and serves as Special Advisor for Political Affairs at the European Space Agency (ESA). He has extensive experience in space policy, including positions at ESA, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the European Space Policy Institute.

Prof. Schrogl has published over 20 books and 140 articles on space policy and law, and is a member of multiple international organizations in space law.

Dr. Ranjana Kaul specializes in international space law, satellite telecommunications, and air law. She is Vice President of the International Institute of Space Law, member of the Indian Space Association, and was listed in the Forbes India Legal Powerlist 2022.

Dr. U.C. Jha is Secretary General of the Indian Society of International Law and a distinguished air veteran. He has extensive expertise in international humanitarian law, military law, and has presented papers to the UN, Indian Parliament, and multiple universities.

Prof. Sandeepa Bhat is Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Aviation and Space Laws at NUJS, Kolkata. He has published books and articles on space, aviation, and medical law, and led multiple research projects sponsored by the World Bank, ISRO, and other institutions.
